🎬 Behind the Scenes
WSR is going to be featured in SNATCH! We love snatch, a queer-owned media project celebrating the intersection of women's sports, art, and culture. For their next zine edition, I had the opportunity to write about why WSR is focused on community building in a piece called “Community over Consumerism”. Shoutout to Liz Carro and Jillian Mannarino for the graphic design and copyediting support. If you’re not already- follow SNATCH on IG/tiktok- you can see the zine production process and get notified when the next edition drops (they sell out fast so 👀)
Our Koch petition got a mention in Out of Your League! Last year when the Koch family purchased 15% of BSE (which includes our beloved NY Liberty) we fired up our zine machine to notify fans. We gathered signatures for a petition calling Julia and David Koch Jr. to show they support not just the business but the values of the WNBA by donating 15 million to the reproductive justice and civic engagement charities selected by the W to receive donations for the Commissioners Cup tournament. This petition is getting some renewed attention thanks to an awesome article by Frankie De La Cretaz titled the gentrification of the WNBA. Highly recommend their substack– great writing at the intersection of queer sports and pop culture.
😍 What I’m liking
This is a new section of the newsletter I’m trying out inspired by my WSR appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show last week for her segment call “What I’m liking”.
In case you missed it, here’s the segment:
And here’s what I’m liking:
Hypatia Sorunke just dropped a 272 page photobook for FittedWNBA their archival photo project documenting fashion from around the W. You can pick up the book or select prints in their shop. Hypatia will be documenting our Bey Fever watch party, come say say hi and learn more about their project!
